This is another one you'll hear a lot and something that keeps people from ever getting startedThe belief is that by owning NFA items Uncle Sam automatically has the right to barge into your home at any time without a warrant to "inspect" your NFA items. This is 100% false.
The reality is that this misunderstanding comes from a section of the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1968 which only applies to Federal Firearms License holders (dealers) which gives the ATF the right to conduct annual compliance checks on the dealers' business and books to make sure that everything is ship shape. Read it again....
Owning NFA items DOES NOT forfeit your fourth amendment rights.
